A Little Closer to Paradise

My, oh my... This past month has been a whirlwind of activity. First, and probably most importantly, I started my new job. Yes, that is correct folks, I finally have been able to move out of the hellish job that I have been working for the bast 6 months or so. I'm still at the same company, but in a MUCH better job. I'm now working out of the company's Shelton office coordinating scheduling for the company's construction jobs. For the most part, it's a lateral move, but it's like getting a pretty big raise because I don't have to pay to park in downtown New Haven anymore. That was running me almost $150/month! The commute is a piece of cake, too. It's about the same distance (less than 10 miles), but it's mostly back roads, and I don't have to deal with traffic. I go in at 6:30 (yes, in the morning), but I get out at 3:00. I've come to the conclusion that it does suck to get up at 5 AM for work, but no more than it sucks getting up at 6 AM, which is what I had been doing. It's all relative before 7:00, and I have to say that getting out at 3:00 just kind of rocks.

So, I'm working up in the substation/garage building with the lineman and the people who actually do the work, like getting your lights back on after a big storm. I was told before I got here that working in these offices is like working at another company. Man, they weren't kidding.... which is beneficial because everyone knows how much I hated the company that I had been working at. The people here aren't pretentious and they (for the most part) don't have agendas. They're obnoxious and torture me, and I love every minute of it. In the short time that I've been here, I have even had the opportunity to play a practical joke. One of the Coaches (they don't like the title supervisor or manager at this company) was messing with me one afternoon... he was just mocking, shooting rubberbands, and generally making a nuisance of himself. As soon as he left the building, I got a great idea (thanks to Kristin) and swiped the trackball out of his mouse and hid it. I do believe I started a war, but it's just so nice to be able to laugh and have fun at work again. I really did miss it.

Some of you may be thinking.... What about grad school and becoming a teacher? Never fear, that's still the plan. Having this job and getting out at 3 actually helps me in that pursuit. I'm taking two classes this fall and got an A in my first class this summer. I decided not to go full time, since I'm learning a new job and getting back into the swing of being in school. I don't want to overload myself and have my grades suffer because of it. I'm actually looking forward to be sitting in a classroom again. We'll see how long that lasts. ;)
