Christmas Cheer

I think that this has been the most exhausting Christmas season that I’ve ever experienced. I haven’t stopped since Thanksgiving, or so it seems. There have been countless Christmas parties, luncheons, family obligations and shopping that needed to be attended to. I also had my math final during that time too, so things were a little hectic.

We had a nice little low key party-ish type of thing the weekend before Christmas. We had about 10 people over and drank wine and just chatted. We had a really good time. Jeremy and Sarah ended up stopping by as things were winding down and most everyone had left. We ended up opening another bottle of wine and getting really, really drunk. We're just that dedicated to being good hosts. ;)

Mom was under the weather this year, so The Boy and I decided that we were going to do Christmas Eve at our house. Mom, Dad, and my brother Lee ended up coming over for a fabulous dinner, cooked by the one and only Boy. He made enough garlic mashed potatoes to keep any vampires at bay and fabulous stuffed flank steak for us. That’s one of the things I love about him. He’s a vegetarian, but goes out of his way to make us carnivores happy. It was a really great night.

Christmas morning, we headed over to Lee’s house to watch the kids open their presents. We got there a little bit early and no one was up, so we decided to grab breakfast. I had no idea that not even Dunkin Donuts is open on Christmas morning. We ended up going to the McDonald’s on the highway and having one of the nastiest breakfasts I had in a while. It was kind of cool to people watch the people in the rest area though. There’s a varied group of people who find themselves in a rest stop McDonald’s on Christmas morning. We finally made our way back to see the kids tearing up all the presents under the tree. My family does the one-present-at-a-time thing, so it lasts a lot longer. The kids had a great time, and we had fun watching them.

The most fun thing, however, was giving The Boy his present from me. His laptop died this fall and he’s been working on my computer in my office. Let’s just say that we “work differently.” Read that as he’s a neat freak and I’m…. not. Anyways, I got him a Dell. Anyone who knows me can tell you how neurotic I was about how I was going to sneak the computer into my house. I ended up bringing it over from my parents’ (I had it shipped there) piece by piece. I wrapped up the components separately. First I gave him a little box with a mousepad and the owners’ manual. He looked at me like he didn’t get it. Then I gave him a box with the keyboard. He was like, “What the…” At that point he was in denial, so I gave up and grabbed the unwrapped CPU and plopped it in his lap. At that point, he had no choice but to clue in. He spent the majority of the afternoon and much of the following week configuring it. He’s so happy to be working in his own space again and I’m happy that he’s not freaking out about my desk anymore.
