Helping Those who Cannot Help Themselves

After the hurricane Katrina disaster, animal rescue groups, including mine have become involved in the massive effort to rescue the animals left behind and get them back to their owners.

Many of these organizations have turned to a site called Petfinder as a centralized location to post images and descriptions of the animal refugees in their care. Petfinder.com is normally used as a place to search databases for adoptable animals all over the country. They are quite well known, in fact, it is how I found my own dog.

They have established an Animal Emergency Response Network, which is a portal allowing people to report a pet in need, volunteer, report a found animal, etc. Through these efforts, hundreds of animals have found their way back to their owners and thousands have escaped certain death.

I am impressed by their utilization of this helpful tool to help people and animals who would otherwise be lost. For those who have been helped through these efforts, it's nothing short of a miracle.
