A Trip Down Gaming Memory Lane

In this week's class, we have been talking about gaming and different games we used to play. I was excited to find that the companion CD for our text had emulators for Apple II's Kareteka and Adventure. I had found them and played for hours before the course even started.

Our discussion board has been full of games that I haven't thought about in ages. Someone posted a great link of the history of Pong and other video games. That site was a lot of fun to check out.

On there, I found links to games that I forgot long ago. My brothers had a lot of these games, and we used to play them all the time when I was a kid. Some of the ones that jump out the most? Coleco Combat, which predated the very advanced Atari version.

Mattel Electronics Handheld Sports Games are fabulous. I wasted so much time on these:

I tracked down the football game on ebay a few years ago. My brother still owns the baseball and the basketball, I think. I even found a guy with a Flickr set of handheld games.

I didn't expect our discussion to bring me back to this place, but I'm kind of glad it did. I love me some low tech sometimes!

Ah, the days of simple tech. I still remember getting our Atari back in the days of the original 2600. My brother and I would play Combat for hours. At some point, the system died and my father replaced it. But, they had changed the design of the console, which was a bummer. (I was old skool even then!) I couldn't wait to hook up the new one to the point that I couldn't take the time to unwrap the new power cord and plugged the old one into the new console. Much to my disappointment the new system didn't work. Much to my delight we discovered that it was the power cord that was bad and not the system. My father returned the "new" one and bought a replacement power supply, which worked! I still have that original Atari in my parent's basement along with dozens of games.

Mr. Danza, I have a ton of games that I bought on an ebay binge a few years ago. I'm sensing a tournament in the near future!
