Winter Fun

I had an old disposable camera in the glove compartment of The Boy's car, so I finally got it developed. I bought it for the famous road trip, but never took all of the pictures. We used it mostly on snowboarding trips last winter, and there were some pretty good pictures.

I submit for your consideration:

To the mountain!

To the mountain!!

Look how short my hair is!!

We may look insane, but those masks
save your life when it's cold and windy

Pure tranquility

This is the street I live on after a fresh snow... So pretty.

A Brief Update

Much going on and just not the right time to update. In the meantime, Sean has finally supplied me with the requisite couple picture. Thanks, Sean!

Too Funny to Keep to Myself

It just wouldn't be fair not to share this with everyone I know. Everyone needs to share the joy. Even girls can get in on the action!!

Fun Proxy Takes the Plunge

I am happy to report that my favorite Fun Proxy, Sean, has taken the plunge and asked his longtime girlfriend Noelle to marry him. Much to his delight, Noelle has said yes and they are now engaged!

Sean and I have been fast friends since the VSI days and have been through thick and thin together. He's the one I turn to at bored:30 when I need some entertaining, and has been close by in the toughest times of my life. It makes me so happy that he's found himself someone special to spend his life with.

I wish I had a picture of the happy couple to share, but all Sean could offer me was one of Noelle and their cat Alliyah:

A cute picture, granted, but not really what I was looking for. I guess it's a start, though. I need to scour my party files and/or Sean needs to pony up a nice couple shot for the masses.

Regardless, CONGRATS SEAN!

Fun with the Fellowship

I saw this posted on a friends blog today, and it cracked me up so much that I had to share. I think this might be in the director's cut of Fellowship of the Ring.

I think this scene pretty much speaks for itself. Enjoy!

It goes to show that amazing things can happen when you have a copy of Photoshop and entirely too much time on your hands. Plus, you know I approve of anything with Ninjas and wizards.

e-Memory Lane

About five years ago, I worked for a dot.com company in New Canaan as a Web Producer. e-Media was a lot of fun and staffed with some really bright people. Unfortunately, the people in charge weren't the sharpest tools in the shed and they squandered all of their VC and ran the company into oblivion. That experience, my layoff, and the subsequent tanking of the industry all contribute to why I find myself in the interesting professional position that I am currently in.

I have to credit my friend Josh from e-Media days for keeping the memory alive and allowing us "e-Medians" to share our fondest memories of days of yore. I'm sure anyone who has worked for a doomed company like ours can relate to some of the things on there...

Winter is Snow Fun When You Ride

Winter is again upon us. Today, I find myself in the throes of a nasty winter storm. It’s your typical coastal Connecticut type of storm: sleet turning to snow, snowing like a bastard, turning to ice and freezing rain, and then freezing back up again. Unfortunately, I’m stuck here at work. It’s a good day for hanging out indoors drinking cocoa. The Boy has an early dismissal from school, and I’m jealous. I’m just hoping that my mountain gets hammered with a good amount of snow.

Last winter I took up the sport of snowboarding. I had been wanting to learn ever since I was in high school and my friends Jason and Mike brought me to a nearby golf course. I had high-top sneakers on and was strapped in one of the crappiest boards that money can by. They gave me a gentle push down the hill and away I went. I screamed, “What do I do??” “Carve!!” was the reply that I received. Needless to say, that ended my snowboarding career for the time being after a single run.

Thirteen years later I finally made good on my threat to learn to ride. We bought season passes to Butternut in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. My first lesson and subsequent trips down the mountain left a little to be desired, but, despite feeling as if I had been beaten with my snowboard, I really enjoyed myself. The rest of the season was great. We went up pretty much every weekend, and by the end of the season I was going down black diamonds. This year we’re going to try and hit some bigger mountains in Vermont. I really think I’m ready.

We went riding for the first time last week. I was a little nervous that I was going to be falling all day, but my first run was totally clean, even getting off the lift. I just have to be really smart about my knees. I just finished up a few months of physical therapy, and the last thing I want is a serious injury. My knees are messed up enough as it is. After a couple of runs, we called it a day. The beauty of the season pass is that you don’t feel obligated to stay all day. The drive up is only a little over an hour, so it’s the perfect scenario for us.

I’m looking forward to more snowy days and a great riding season ahead. Bring on the snow!!
