The Return of the Eighties

The Boy recently surprised me with a CD from a band called The Bravery. He said to me, "I just want you to expand your musical horizons… trust me." I popped said CD into a player and from the first synthesized note, I knew I was in heaven. Expand my musical horizons my arse. The Bravery is pure genuis! They're a bona fide eighties sounding band. Come one the boys in band wear makeup like every good eighties band should! Needless to say, they are my favorite band du jour.

I highly recommend that you go check out their website. The site is beautifully designed and if you follow the MUSIC link, you can check out their music. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Happy listening!

Across the Pond

In a little less than a week, I will be trekking across the pond for work. The destination of this globe trotting fool, you ask? Worthing, UK. I know, you've probably never heard of it. I hadn't either, honestly. It's a sleepy beach town located about an hour or so south of London.

I'm going to be there for a little less than two weeks. It works out kind of nice, because I fly on a Sunday afternoon(flights are way cheaper). I'll get there in the evening, settle in, and the next day is a national holiday, so I have the day off! Score one for Chrysanthemum! So, I'll work 4 days, spend the weekend playing in London, work 3 days the following week, travel home on Thurday and then get Friday off from work, since I flew on the previous Sunday. It seems like so much, but I think it will work out really nicely.

They're also putting me up in the cutest B&B near the water. Check it out:

My home in Worthing

I will certainly miss the boy and the moose, but I think that I will really enjoy myself. I'll get to meet my British coworkers face to face and most likely get to play a little too... I'm on the hunt for 21 hole white Dr. Martens to wear under my wedding dress. All I have found so far is 14. The 14's rock, but 21's would be so much cooler!

What have I gotten myself into??

I had this conversation with my friend Kristin earlier today. She's the "ME" in this exchange:

CF: i'm embarassed to tell you about the conversation i had with D yesterday... but. he's off this week for his april break, right?
ME: ok...
CF: i'm driving home and he calls me ... and you know you're in for a rough conversation when he starts it off with
ME: "dont get mad"
CF: no...
CF: "i was watching dr. phil this afternoon and..."
ME: LOL
CF: i'm like, what the eff?
CF: so he goes on to tell me about the people who were on there and their tragic financial lives and whatnot
CF: and there was some chick with some book... and he tells me we're "going to go out tonight and get it"
CF: i was mortified
CF: talk about consumer
CF: i forbade him from watching the show the rest of the week
CF: it's too humiliating to talk about
ME: you have to stop him before it gets out of control
CF: i told him that i was going to take the cable boxes from the house
ME: seriously
CF: i'd rather him watch porn

Ah... I have a lifetime of these conversations to look forward to.

Chrysanthemum's Fantabulous April Fool's Day

NOTE: THIS IS NOT AN APRIL FOOL'S JOKE

Well, I have to say that today was one of the most exiting days of my life. I started my new job, which was really good. I started on a Friday, which is really the way to go. I basically spent the day meeting my coworkers and getting handed gadgets left and right. I was a happy geek when I left the office for the weekend.

After the end of this successful first day of work, The Boy and I went for a ride to the beach and he PROPOSED TO ME. That’s right, The Boy and I are now officially engaged. The engagement happened in a way that it only could to me. This is how it went down:

The Boy called me on my way home from work and told me he wanted to take me out to dinner to celebrate my first day... On my way home, I got caught in really bad traffic. The Boy was HOUNDING me to hurry up. I’m thinking what am I supposed to do? It’s traffic! I finally get home, and he insists that I use the bathroom before we go out, which I thought was weird.... We get in the car and hit the road... I'm asking him where we're going to dinner and what we're doing (I can't stand the suspense for surprises) I just won't shut up (surprise, surprise).

We finally pull up to this beach area on the other side of town that's a little secluded..... I start saying "You're taking me somewhere to kill me!" and just being generally obnoxious. In other words, I was just being myself. We pull into a spot and he grabs this big box out of the back of the car that's wrapped up in a sweatshirt...

I'm like a puppy. "Whatcha got? What's in the box, come on Spike, tell me tell me!" At this point, I’m convinced that he bought me an iPod for my commute and I’m rambling on and on about how I know what he got me and how “I’m good at guessing these kinds of things.“ The Boy is just snickering at me.

We finally get to a bench on the beach and I see the box... A Vermont Teddy Bear box. I scream, "IT'S MY ALIEN BEAR!!!!" Yes, the one I fell in love with during our trip to Vermont.

I look in the box and notice that it is holding a little bouquet of flowers and wearing a sash. I take it out of the box (I have my back to Dave at this point and he’s fumbling for the ring) and read the sash, which says Will you marry me? I’m utterly dumbfounded. I'm confused and turn around, but i don't see him at my eye level... he's on one knee.... with a ring.... He squeaks out "Will you marry me?" I look at him, then at the bear, then at him... back and forth... CLUELESS.

It finally occurs to me to say yes.... and I'm still looking back and forth between him and the bear. He asks me, "Do you want to put the ring ON?" Me: "Oh , yeah... YEAH, of course!" I slip the ring on and the rest is history.

All I can say is that this scheming boy of mine got me good and totally off guard. It was the ultimate April Fool’s joke. Pictures to come soon!
