AT YOUR MINI DEALER
Your MINI is now being transported to your MINI Dealer. We know it's hard, but please be patient just a little longer. Once it arrives, your dealer will give it one last shine and a clean bill of health. Then they will call you and set up a time for you to stop by and happily head home in your new MINI.
Gasholes
I heard on the radio today that Exxon Mobil made nearly 10 BILLION dollars in profit over the past three months. This is the highest profit made by a company ever. They are the top profit maker, but the other oil companies are not too far behind. I'm just... disgusted.
Surprise, surprise... they're playing it off like it's not a big deal. It's funny that this was the same period of time that Katrina and Rita hit and gas prices jumped by more than 50 cents a gallon. Hmmm... I remember the threat of rising has prices with each subsequent rain squall. Who is doing the price gouging around here?
The Washington Post listed a few things that money like that could pay for:
All Social Security Benefits for three months.
An Ivy League Education for about 60,000 students
160 Boeing 737 jets
Fund the military in Iraq and Afghanistan for over two months (that disgusts me too, but I digress)
Don't even start me on how the poor are going to heat their homes this winter. These companies should just be ashamed of themselves. And funny... our fearless leader stands to make a hearty profit from this as well.

I usually don't perpetuate these types of emails, but this one is just too appropriate...
BASIC RULES FOR DRIVING IN CONNECTICUT
1. Turn signals will give away your next move. A real Connecticut driver never uses them.
2. Under no circumstance should you leave a safe distance between you and the car in front of you, or the space will be filled in by somebody else, putting you in an even more dangerous situation.
3. The faster you drive through a red light, the smaller the chance you have of getting hit.
4. Never, ever come to a complete stop at a stop sign. No one expects it and it will result in you being rear-ended.
5. Never get in the way of an older car that needs extensive bodywork. Connecticut is a no-fault insurance state and the other guy doesn't have anything to lose.
6. Braking is to be done as hard and late as possible to ensure that your ABS kicks in, giving a nice, relaxing foot massage as the brake pedal pulsates.. For those of you without ABS, it's a chance to stretch your legs.
7. Never pass on the left when you can pass on the right. It's a good way to scare people entering the highway.
8. Speed limits are arbitrary figures, given only as a suggestion and are apparently not enforceable in Connecticut during rush hour.
9. Just because you're in the left lane and have no room to speed up or move over doesn't mean that a Connecticut driver flashing his high beams behind you doesn't think he can go faster in your spot.
10. Always slow down and rubberneck when you see an accident or even someone changing a tire.
11. Learn to swerve abruptly. Connecticut is the home of the high-speed slalom driving thanks to the State Highway Department, which puts pot-holes in key locations to test drivers' reflexes and keep them on their toes.
12. It is traditional in Connecticut to honk your horn at cars that don't move the instant the light turns green.
13. Remember that the goal of every Connecticut driver is to get there first by whatever means necessary.
14. In the Connecticut area, 'flipping someone the bird' is considered a polite Connecticut salute. This gesture should always be returned.

AT DISTRIBUTION CENTER
Your MINI has arrived on U.S. Shores and is going through one of its final stages of training and quality control at a MINI Vehicle Distribution Center. The center serves as yet another chance for a coprehensive, bumper-to-bumper inspection. It's also where your MINI will be taught not to make fun of Americans who call the "bonnet" a "hood" or the "boot" a "trunk."

Gadgety Goodness
Today was a wonderful day of gadget-getting at work. I came into the office today to find that my spiffy new duplication tower has finally arrived after a four month wait. What is so cool about this is that people can't bug me to copy CDs for them anymore. I'm putting it in a cubicle outside my office for everyone to share. Isn't that so nice of me?
The coolest gadget get of the day is my new webcam. This is what has occupied me for the majority of this afternoon. The narcicist that I am... I've been taking pictures of myself.

And I'm getting paid for this, too. Sometimes I love my job.
Requiem for a Sidekick
Last night, The Boy did a very difficult thing for him. He traded in his old car for a shiny new one. The old car was a 1994 Suzuki Sidekick, which he bought new back in 1993. They have had a lot of adventures together. Travelling all over New England, drives to Canada, a few years out in Chicago and the mountains of Colorado. All in all, the Sidekick lived a wonderful and full life, which is evident by its mileage when we turned it in last night.

It was hard for The Boy to give in and let go of the car.

I can totally relate. I STILL have my convertible VW Rabbit, which has sat idle for years, despite my vow to restore it. I'm also facing the impending trade-in of my Jetta that is coming up in a few weeks.
We did a little
photo shoot of his last moments with is car and some of the things we will remember most... like the
penny used as a stereo knob.
The cool part about it is his new ride... a brand new Honda Element.

Admittedly, this all makes me a little bit jealous... My car won't be here for another couple of weeks. Once it does it will be so cute... I don't know if anyone out there (besides you,
Kristin) remembers a looney toons cartoon featuring
Spike and Chester, but that will be our two cars once they're together.
Opening the Flood Gates
Yesterday, The Boy and I took a drive. It was the first full day of weather nice-ness in a week and a half. We decided to take advantage of it and headed up a really scenic road that heads north into CT. There were all of these people stopped near the Stevenson Dam, so we decided to check out what the fuss was all about. We found this little access road that led down below the dam... It was crazy!
They had to open up the flood gates and let more water into the river because there was so much rain over the past week plus. There was even water splashing over the top of the dam, probably due to the wind. It was like being at Niagra Falls... Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating, but I've never been there, so let me have my fun!

EN ROUTE TO VEHICLE DISTRIBUTION CENTER
Though still adjusting a bit to its sea-wheels, your new MINI wants you to know that so far the cruise has actually been a blast - great buffets and lots of partying with its brothers. But still, your MINI can't wait to dock, hit the road, and chew up solid ground again.
Feeling a little helpless...
It's never a good thing when you get a phone call at an odd hour from someone you haven't spoken to in over a year. That's what happened this afternoon. Much to our dismay, we were informed that a childhood friend of The Boy's passed away. He was our age... far too young... and a father.
They had been friends for about 20 years. He was among the group of young friends to bind themselves together forever with matching tattoos. They grew up together. I had the pleasure of knowing him for a couple of years. In that short time, I was also able to build some memories... A day riding rollercoasters for The Boy's birthday, a concert in Vermont, taking part in the production for the music video for our friends' band.
This is just so... sudden.
I'm in an odd place. Obviously, I'm mourning. But these guys were family. I can't even fathom that kind of loss. I'm fortunate enough to have been spared this kind of loss thus far in my life. It has left me a little ill-equipped to deal with this sort of thing, though. I'm somewhere in the middle of feeling the loss and not knowing how to help my friends who are hurting so much more.
So, please think a good thought for The Boy and his friends... and especially Mark's little boy.
We're all going to miss you terribly.
A Sociological Experiment
Okay... I'm going to try something on my other blog. I'm going to pimp myself out on as many blog resgistries as I can find and see how much traffic I can drive to the site. I want to see if I can build a community around the site, a-la boybands. The ultimate super-group community.
If I can get a solid amount of traffic to the site, I may expand my test to adding advertisements to the site. Yes, I know. The $2.23 check I receive each quarter will be well worth it. I'm just curious to see how far I can go with a little active promotion.
I have actually gotten a little bit of exposure after being listed as a blog of note. A class at Trinity College has found my blog and have been discussing it as a part of their class. I seem to be doing something right.
What can you do to help? I'm so glad you asked! ;) Spread the word.... link to the culture of communication. I have no pride. I'm a total sellout.
Seriously, though... I'm just curious what, if anything, will come of this endeavor.
Moving Right Along! (I hope there are no hurricaines out there)

Congratulations! Your healthy and handsome new MINI has been built. A wee bit heavy for any stork, your MINI will now be loaded onto a ship to make its way across the pond. At night, we're sure it'll be dreaming of tearing through twisty turns with aplomb and glee.

Hoping for Some Sun
Tomorrow we are attending the wedding wedding of our good friends Jeremy and Sarah. They are hoping to have their ceremony outside. It's been raining for days, and it's not looking too promising for tomorrow. There is the possibility of a break in the afternoon.
Sending positive sunny weather vibes for a picture perfect wedding tomorrow!!
Joe and Sharon's Wedding
