Reunion

I think the thing I like most about the Thanksgiving holiday is the fact that I get the rare pleasure of seeing high school friends. As is true with most groups of friends, we have spread to the winds since our high school and college days. There are "Little Milfords" all over the country, in Boston, Chicago, and LA among others. I'm one of the people currently stuck in the vortex that is my hometown, as is The Boy. We both grew up here and have tons of memories.

It is this particular holiday that brings everyone home moreso than any other, even Christmas. I just returned from a night out. What I love about these people is that no matter how long it has been since we've last spoken, things pick up right where they left off. When I hang out with them, I realize how much I miss them and how much simpler those days were. I love to hear about their successes and new adventures, though... I'm proud to say that these people are my friends of over fifteen years (I can hardly believe that it's been that long!).

It is Thanksgiving and all, so I suppose that I should come out and say it. I'm thankful for each and every one of these people... They have played a huge role in making me the person that I am today, and I'm a better person for having grown up with them. And the funny stories we know about each other are a bonus, too.

And for the record... I'm not drinking and blogging. I had water all night. I just want to focus on the positive vibe and pure love that I felt all night. Thanks guys, it always makes me happy to see you. It makes me look forward to Thanksgiving every year!

The 2005 First Annual Greater Milford Scavenger Hunt

This past weekend, some twelve teams participated in the 2005 First Annual Greater Milford Scavenger Hunt. It was a blast! Brian and Heather worked hard to get this event off the ground, and their efforts showed.

The Boy, e Danza, Lo, and I made up Team Danza. We ran all over town collecting items and taking pictures of ourselves in different situations. Some personal favorites:

TEAM DANZA
Lo, Boy, Girl, e Danza
Scavenger Hunt 2005 009

Team Members Kissing on a Bridge
(we got extra points for the girl on girl)
Scavenger Hunt 2005 029

Posing Sexy with Ronald McDonald
Scavenger Hunt 2005 046

Team Member Working a Cash Register AKA My New Career
Would you like fries with that?
Scavenger Hunt 2005 047

In the end, we were upset by kat e, J, and Team What's Happening. They also had some great pictures, but I do believe a bitter rivalry has begun.

Guilty Musical Pleasures

As a spinoff to my last entry and the challenge brought forth by our own kat e, I would like to invite you all to share your guilty musical pleasures.

I have taken an off-the-top-of-my-head stab at some that come to mind, but I need to go home and peruse my music collection. I especially need to check out my cassettes that I just removed from the Jetta, as it was the last tape deck I had access to. The Boy made a solemn promise to do a "grab bag" style replacement of my long lost tapes... pull one out of the box and replace it with a CD.

  • Bobby Brown
  • Twisted Sister
  • Ratt
  • New Edition
  • Weird Al Yankovic
  • Tiffany/Debbie (sorry, Deborah) Gibson
  • NKOTB
  • The Bee Gees
  • Old Bon Jovi (from the Slippery When Wet album)
  • Olivia Newton John... the ENTIRE Xanadu soundtrack and, of course, the homoerotic extravaganza Let's Get Physical
  • Now, I know that you're thinking this band may be iffy to the casual observer, but I'm not ashamed! Post it anyway. If nothing else, it will give us ammunition for mockery.

Expect revisions to this posting to follow, as I call out some of the good ones and perhaps add some more of my own!

Okay, I know this is stupid, but it still made me laugh

Take the quiz: "Which Random Irish Gaelic Phrase Are You?"

    Is maith liom bananai
Is maith liom bananai - 'I like bananas.'You're laid-back and you enjoy the simple things in life. Some might say you're a little too laid-back. Just what is it you're smoking, anyway?

    Who are you calling adult??

I just got back from a ride in my new car and had a horrible realization. The car has a fancy stereo that picks up the feeds from digital radio stations and can tell you the name of the station, the genre, and even what song is playing. Gadgety goodness, for sure! Now, this is all well and good, that is until I saw the genre of the station that I was enjoying Smashmouth and Simple Minds on:

    ADULT HITS

Where do these people get off referring to me and my music as ADULT?? To me, adult hits are the old songs that my mother listens to (dubbed Oldies stations) or general easy listening stations. Yahoo music would never pass such judgement on me.

Never mind my age... I don't think I'll ever let that gauge my maturity level. But to make such a wild accusation about my music is just plain insanity. It's going to take me a while to recover from this one.

Maybe I'm taking this all too personally? In the meantime, to the adults to the world, I say ROCK ON!!

    Let's Motor!

Finally, after much anticipation, my shiny new MINI is home! I love it!!! It's full of wonderful gadgets and is so cute I could scream. Now The Boy and I are now situated in both of our new cars, or "nerd cars," as our friend Pete puts it.

Saying goodbye to the Jetta was tough. I'm still feeling pretty guilty about parting with it. What can I say? I anthropomorphosize most things in my life. I have issues, I know...
    Hugging the Jetta goodbye

The process of getting the car was a blast. They make you sit in the back and do all the paperwork while they sneak the car into the dealership through the side door. They then put a cover on it so that you can't see it until the unveiling. It was like unwrapping a Christmas present.

They even gave me a congratulatory gift basket full of yummy treats! Our salesguy Scott was really great. I was beside myself, squealing like a little girl. After a runthrough of the gadgets, The Boy and I were ready to motor!

I thought you were getting a purple car, and where the hell are the bonnet stripes!?!?

Excellent questions. The car is actually purple, but it's iridescent and reflects bluish. All of the flash pictures we took all caught the blue. I assure you, it is very purple. The guy who does the stripes is on vacation, but they wanted to get the car to me, so he will be coming to my work in the first part of this week to remedy that. Once that is done, I will post more pictures of my new baby, complete with bonnet stripes and alien antenna topper.

    The joy of supportive friends

Today is the day that I finally get to pick up my MINI. As the entire world knows by now, I've been waiting anxiously for MONTHS for its arrival. Kristin has been very supportive through it all, despite the fact that The Boy and I will possess two of her favorite cars of the moment.

    Our conversation this morning:
K: you could call me if you wanted. :)
    C: you wouldn't hate that? ;)
    C: FROM the MINI?
K: i would share your joy
K: and then hang up on you
    K: out of jealousy
    C: LOL
    C: i'd understand
    K: of course you would
C: then, out of spite, i'll call you back from the element
    K: OOOOOOHHHH
    K: you ARE evil
    C: touche!
K: Then I'd remind you that Im' in AUSTIN
    C: CURSES
K: and it's 80 this weekend and there's probably something related to Nightmare Before Christmas going on. ;)
C: wow... that was just plain mean
    K: We are so awesome
    C: we're not so bad

    What's worse for a pumpkin?

Getting mutilated to make a Jack O'Lantern or pureed to make a pumpkin pie? It's a brutal end for them either way.

    Why we have pets...

Duh! So that we can humiliate them by dressing them in funny clothes. Halloween is nothing more than a good excuse to do so.

    IMG_0657

Okay, so admittedly Logan, The Boy, and I all had coordinated Jack Skellington sweatshirts on that night. But it was Halloween and we were trying to be in the spirit of things.

Oh my god... we're those people!!
