Crazy Realization
130 Days to go to the wedding!!! That's a mere FIVE MONTHS. I'm not freaking out... I'm not freaking out... Okay, maybe I am, but only a little bit.
Good Times on the Fly
Saturday night ended up being a really good time... by accident. Well, it was supposed to be a good time, but just with a different set of people. Allow me to explain...
We were supposed to host some of Dave's family for dinner this past Saturday night. Dave's cousins and their baby have never been over to our house, so we figured we'd have a nice dinner with them and our uncle. The Boy exerted a great deal of effort to get the house in order and cook a fabulous meal. He was also suffering from the man flu, aka the sniffles (thanks for the term, kat), so he was kind of out of it. Unfortunately, I was at class Friday night until after 9, and doing wedding stuff on Saturday afternoon, and wasn't able to pitch in as much as I would have liked. Despite these obstacles, he cooked up a loverly meal and we even had time to relax and wait for his family to arrive at 5:30.
At 5:30, no one had arrived, which made us a little bit concerned. You have to understand that The Boy's family is obnoxiously punctual (even The Boy is known as the "time nazi" among our friends). At 5:40, we know something was up. The Boy checks the email invitation to his family and realizes he prepared the meal a little too early... by a week!! Once I compose myself after laughing, we had to figure out what to do with all of this food.
In a scramble, we ended up calling some friends, luring them over with the promise of a yummy homecooked meal. It turned into a much overdue night of good food, laughs, and fun. We should do that more often!
Battered and loving it
Yesterday, the weather was finally conducive for snowboarding... sort of. The mountain was open and there was snow, on some trails. Well, not so much snow as sheets of ice with snow over them. I got battered yesterday worse than I have since my first few times riding. I fell coming off the lift, turning, skating, you name it! Our friend Brian got a season pass for Christmas, and this was his first trip up this season.
My helmet also earned its keep yesterday. I had been hesitant about getting one, thinking it would be uncomfortable and hot, but The Boy insisted and I relented. When I bit it yesterday and whacked the back of my head on the concrete-hard surface of the trail, I knew I had he had done right by me. Don't get me wrong, I had an instant headache and lay there for a minute before I got up and finished the run, but the key is that I got up and finished the run. Otherwise, I know that I would have either cracked my head open, given myself a concussion, or both. Brian saw the fall, and all he could say was:
Damn, you fell HARD!
Yay safety gear!
It's funny... still, no matter how bad I get my ass kicked when I ride, I love it more and more each time we go. I'm a glutton for punishment!

What we were up against. Note the overall theme of no snow.

We made the best of the conditions and managed to have a good time.
Handsome
I was sifting through some pictures to upload to flickr and I came across this one. Our friend B used this as part of his portfolio. It was shot in the attic of the house that we will be renovating.

I love this picture! Check out B's
online portfolio, which includes another excellent
picture of The Boy.

Jack Skellington was a SynthPop Star
I made an interesting discovery recently while listening to our new XM radio. Apparently Danny Elfman, who did the score of so many movies that I love, was the front man for the 80s pop sensation Oingo Boingo.
Who the hell knew? Is it wrong that the fact that he was a cheesy 80s pop star makes me respect him more?
Anyways, check him out in his full Oingo Boingo glory:

Yes, that's Danny Elfman in the foreground busting capsIf you listen closely, you can hear the
Jack Skellington in his voice. Jack would fit right in with some crazy 80s band. He's insanely skinny, dresses funky, and has a kick-ass voice.
It's the most wonderful time of the year..
Time to ride!

Our first trip of the season was a smashing success (no pun intended). I'm looking forward to a white and fun-filled season.
My Favoritist Christmas Decoration
I know that Christmas is over and decorations are starting to come down (or should be, at least), but I had to share the coolest blowup yard ornament ever.
Attention People of Earth
Can you please stop uploading your holiday pictures to flickr for TEN MINUTES while I sort mine out?
That is all. Thank you.
