Guten Tag from Deutschland!

Greetings from Füssen, Germany. We got in this morning and after checking into our hotel and taking a solid nap, we explored the town. Unfortunately, I'm not able to post pictures other than the ones I take with my cell phone, as I am reliant on the computers of others for my technology fix.

However, some more European observations:
  • There are tons, I mean TONS of mullets everywhere. It's the new hip thing, apparently. My personal favorite is the mullet/fauxhawk combo. I tell you, the world's gone mad!
  • Two things Europeans consume a lot of: Bread and cigarettes. Not much you can do about either one... I'd starve otherwise and it can be hard to avoid second hand smoke.
  • I find that I am definitely a small town person. I loved Quedlinburg, Germany and the small town atmosphere. It was literally in the middle of farm country and was a place that the Nazis had secret meetings during WWII.
  • Füssen is a great town, if not a little overrun with tourists. There are two castles, one of which inspired the castles at Disney. We're going to check them out tomorrow. There's also some sort of mountain bike race this weekend, so there are tons of people in town for that.
  • More crazy keyboard antics. The y and z are swapped, which is driving me a little batty. Again, I have cool characters like ö, ä, ü, ß, µ.

On Sunday, we head to Salzburg, Austria, which to this points reigns as my favorite place in Europe based upon the trip I made in college. It will be interesting to see what has changed in the past 12 years. From there, we head to Italy and hopefully Sicily, where we will both try and trace our family roots.

We've covered a lot of ground thus far and we've only just begun.

    Auf Wiedersehen!!

    Notes from Abroad

Wow... we've been away for a week already. Right now, I'm in Oslo, Norway, killing some time on our last night in town. We're headed out to dinner in a little while and tomorrow we jump a train to Copenhagen, Denmark via Sweden.

Loads of pictures uploaded as often as we can!!

Some quick notes while I wait to leave:
  • I love meeting people while traveling. While headed to the airport in London to catch our flight to Oslo, we met up with a bunch of drunk Brits who were both very drunk and very funny. It made the tube ride loads of fun.
  • Sleeping on the floor of an airport can be kind of fun. We did this last Sunday night, since our flight check-in was at 4:30 AM and the tube doesn't run that early. Good thing the floors were spotless:

  • Oslo is a really great town. The weather has been beautiful, and it seems the Norwegians suck as much as they can out of their summers since their winters are so long.
  • On a related note, there are loads of pregnant woman all over Norway. Seems like there's not much else to do in the winter, if you catch my drift.
  • Spending the 4th of July on a boat on Oslofjord is not so bad... The water is butt cold, though.

  • We spent some time in the mountains in the greatest cabin. We brought our own water and the little bit of electricity was provided by solar power. Tomas' dad built it himself! We hiked to the summit of the mountain behind us. From a distance, it looks like a giant breast on the horizon.

  • The Norwegian word for speed is farts:

  • Norwegian computers are just different enough than American ones to make typing a little bit slower. They have cooler characters like ø,æ,and å, though.
  • We are eternally grateful to our hosts Tomas and Ingvild this past week. They made us feel at home and showed us what it was like to live like a local.
